Smart Maritime Group to Build Two Tankers for Dutch VEKA Group

24.05.2018

Smart Maritime Group (SMG) has signed a contract to build two outfitted hulls of chemical tankers for the Dutch VEKA Shipbuilding WT B.V.

The vessels are intended for transportation of petrochemicals and chemical cargoes along the inland waterways of Europe.

According to the contract, SMG will manufacture the hulls, will install the general pipeline systems of the vessels, will mount the deck-based outfitting and will also paint the hulls.

The duration of the construction will be 11.5 months per one hull.

The value of the contract will amount to over UAH 145 million.

"This is the first large external shipbuilding contract that entered the Ukrainian shipyards in the last five years. Taking into account an unstable economic situation in the country, the ongoing military conflict, this event in itself is extraordinary one and, we hope, it will be a positive signal for the entire market. We have been cooperating with VEKA for quite a long time. Our main advantage in this cooperation is not only a competitive price, but a consistently high quality confirmed by the leading international classification societies (marine registries)," said Vasiliy Fedin, CEO of SMG.

The history of successful partnership relations between SMG and VEKA Group is now more than 10 years. Over this time SMG built 8 hulls for VEKA’s chemical tankers. Overall, 12 vessels of the same class were built for the Dutch market.
