Oleg Kononov Appointed as Head Coach of Sevastopol FC

Changes to the coaching team of Sevastopol FC were considered and approved at the meeting of the football club's Board of Directors on 12 June 2012. Oleg Kononov was appointed as the team's new head coach. He will also continue to perform his duties as the club's General Manager, thus concentrating both managerial and coaching functions in his hands.

'We are extremely grateful to Sergey Puchkov who took charge of our team between seasons and succeeded in developing the effective game strategy in the second round of the championship; however, the club needs to move on. We hope that the appointment of Oleg Kononov will help us achieve the desired result,' said the CEO of Smart-Holding Alexey Pertin commenting on the club shareholder's decision.

'I am grateful to the Board of Directors and the shareholders of Sevastopol FC for the confidence they have given me. For the time I have been with the club, I have carefully studied both the functions of the General Manager and the club's general performance. I am positive that the objective of qualifying for the Premier League is feasible, and together we will invest maximum effort to make sure our fans see the best Ukrainian teams at the club's home arena next year,' said Oleg Kononov in his interview for the club's press service.

Oleg Kononov is a famous Belarusian football player and coach. He was born on 23 March 1966 in Kursk. He started his coaching career in 2000 at Torpedo Minsk and has worked for numerous football clubs in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine.

Before joining Sevastopol FC, he coached Karpaty Lviv from 2008 to 2011. In the season 2009/2010, he brought the club to the fifth European Cup-qualifying place in the Premier League of Ukraine and then to the group stage of the Europa League. In 2011, he ranked third in the best Ukrainian football coach 2010 poll organized by UA-Futbol and was awarded the Discovery 2010 title. He and his team also won the second match of Copa del Sol tournament in Spain. In the season 2010/2011, he repeated his success in the Premier League of Ukraine and took Karpaty Lviv to the European Cup stage. In January 2012, he was appointed the General Manager of Sevastopol FC.
