ChSY Accomplished Repairs of Pridneprovye Corvette

04.02.2013

On 1 February, Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard (ChSY, Nikolaev City, Ukraine) finished dock repairs of Pridneprovye Missile Corvette of the Naval Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The scope of the performed work included renewal of the hull plating, repair of the rudder propeller unit and bottom valves of the vessel. To carry out the repair, the corvette was lifted up using 900-tonne cranes and was placed on a dock supporting structure. Special attention was given to the vessel’s hull since the outer plating was in quite a critical condition due to reduction in the metal thickness. In addition, laborious replacement of metal in combat stations and in machine compartments was made.

‘The key priority for us in this important order is the quality of the performed work. We are committed to returning well-repaired vessels to the Ukrainian navy and I am sure that the staff of Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard will cope with the task properly,’ said Valeriy Kalashnikov, the General Director of Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard.

‘The company has finished the job. The accomplished repair of Pridneprovye Corvette is one more example of our fruitful cooperation with the shipwrights from Nikolaev. In the short term, once the vessel’s technical readiness is finally re-established, Pridneprovye will continue to perform its tasks as part of the military unit of the Naval Forces of Ukraine. The leadership of the naval forces is sure that the yard’s staff will successfully accomplish repairs of other ships as well,’ said Mikhail Tokar, the Head of the Operations and Repair Department in the Command of the Naval Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In acknowledgment of the fulfilled repairs, the commander of the vessel presented a symbolic gift to the staff of Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard, a picture of Pridneprovye Corvette with a commemorative inscription on it.

We recall that in May 2012 a tender was held resulting in contracts signed on 7 June between Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard and the leadership of the Naval Armed Forces of Ukraine for repair of four ships. In August 2012, Pridneprovye Corvette entered the water area of ChSY for subsequent overhaul.

Last October, ChSY finished major repair of the first of the vessels under the contract with the Naval Armed Forces of Ukraine, small scout ship Pereyaslav.
