SMG Invested UAH 30 Million in Expansion of Metalworks Fabrication and Renewal of Assets

12.07.2017

Smart Maritime Group (SMG) has invested UAH 30 million in the expansion of its production facilities for the manufacture of metal structures and modernization of the fixed assets at Kherson shipyard.

The funds will be spent on the construction of a new workshop for the fabrication of offshore metal structures, on the upgrade of crane equipment, metalworking lines and the repair of certain technological sections of metal processing chain.

The construction of the offshore metalwork shop, a 140-meter long, 32-meter wide and 19-meter high building worth UAH 10 million, is expected to be completed by September.

The program for the modernization of the crane equipment provides for the renewal of WENSLAFF magnetic crane and KONE portal crane. To repair the latter, it is required to replace DN 5.5 m bearing, which is manufactured in Germany. The part will be installed in December 2017, and the total cost of repairing both cranes will be over UAH 5 million.

Within the framework of a joint project with Metinvest to launch a sheet metal processing service at Kherson shipyard, SMG will overhaul UBR-50 sheet-levelling machine, as well as GUTMANN cleaning and painting line. The cost of this work is estimated at UAH 4.5 million.

‘Our performance capabilities again become interesting to foreign customers, who gradually overcome the fear of instability in Ukraine. Investment in modernization is a natural and logical necessity. SMG should be ready to execute contracts of any complexity at the highest technological level,’ said Vasiliy Fedin, the General Director of SMG.
