This year, the International Charitable Foundation in Honour of Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God (ICF) will provide almost UAH 15 million to create and equip a unique operating room at the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.Within the framework of the project, special surgical and angiographic equipment will be purchased for one of the operating rooms of the medical institution. This will make it possible to do cardiac surgery using advanced minimally invasive and endovascular technologies. The project is unique for Ukraine. In such an operating room, a patient will be able to receive all the necessary diagnostic and treatment procedures in one place. This will significantly reduce the number of surgical intervention stages, as well as the time of patients’ general hospital admission and recovery. Here, various specialists will be able to simultaneously carry out several diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for one patient. ‘Every year, more than 6 thousand surgical interventions are made at the Heart Institute, both open-heart and angiographic operations. One out of every fifty operated patients needs hybrid surgery. The use of such an operating room is extremely important in cardiac surgery in the first place. It can also be used in orthopaedics, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery or when taking organ biopsy. Operational intervention in such an operating room will take less time and will allow solving more complex issues, both cardiac surgery issues and related ones,” Natalia Balayan, executive director of the ICF in Honour of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God, commented on the goal of the project. Reference The International Charitable Foundation in Honour of Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God has been a partner of the Help the Heart Beat charity project of the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine since the beginning of 2017. The project is about providing help in treatment of children having congenital heart diseases. Within the framework of the program, the ICF provides targeted support to orphans, as well as to children from large, single-parent and socially unprotected families. In addition, specialized medical equipment and expensive consumables for complex operations are bought using ICF’s funds. Since the beginning of the cooperation, the Foundation has allocated UAH 13.5 million for the project. Thanks to this assistance, 79 children having congenital heart defects were successfully operated on.
