Four years ago, Smart-Holding industrial and investment group decided to conquer grain transhipment in volumes tangible for the market. A decision was made to reorganize and condense the shipbuilding clusters. It was decided to create full-fledged transhipment terminals based on the unutilized capacities of the shipyards. In particular, Nikolaev shipyard of Smart Maritime Group (formerly Chernomorsky Shipbuilding Yard or ChSY) has taken this path. The shipyard is creating a production and logistics hub in an industrial park format with an emphasis on cargo transhipment. Having invested USD 6 million at the first stage, Smart-Holding set up a moderate-sized grain terminal on the premises of the plant.
Representatives of the top management of Smart-Holding industrial and investment group and China Railway Construction Corporation Ltd (China) discussed opportunities of cooperation and implementation of joint investment projects in the field of transportation infrastructure and logistics.
RBC-Ukraine: We met with the CEO of Smart-Holding Alexey Pertin to discuss the development outlook of the Ukrainian shipbuilding industry since forecasts by industry analysts predict a protracted global crisis for all shipyards. In particular, DanishShipFinance predicts that the world's largest shipyards may be left without any orders by 2017.
